Hyunsik's father, Lim Jihoon, was a folk singer who also hated the idea of his son's dream of becoming a singer. After persuading his father he finally got the change to get a guitar. Hyunsik then went to China to study in Shanghai for 2 years and came back to pursue his dream as a singer at Cube Entertainment.

Hyunsik also participated in the South Korean sit-com "Living In Chungdamdong" with his current BTOB members Eunkwang, Minhyuk, Ilhoon and past member Minwoo (who is currently in the group C-CLOWN).
